Much as I hate to admit it, chicken fever has struck Glimmercroft, and struck hard! Chicken breeds, it turns out, are like potato chips - No one can keep just one. It began with my desire to produce my own fast-growing meat bird cross. To that end, I chose fast-growing Delawares, and for structure, a utility strain of White Laced Red Cornish. I brought in hatching eggs from Texas. Then I decided that it would be fun to sell eggs with a variety of colors in each dozen. After some consideration, I settled on Blue Wheaten Ameraucanas as blue egg layers and Gold Cuckoo Marans as dark brown egg layers, purchasing hatching eggs from show flocks across the country. I also purchased a Brown Leghorn pullet to provide the white eggs, completing the palette. I thought I finally had everything I needed - beautiful, purebred chickens to produce good meat birds and a rainbow variety of eggs - when I happened across a picture of a hen that just knocked my socks off. After some investigation, I determined that she is a Light (Splash) Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. Now, of course, I must have some of those as well! Most of these images are not of my own birds, as my birds are still rather immature. Also, since the windstorm and power outage a couple of weeks ago, my camera and computer are not speaking to one another. Hopefully, that will be resolved by the time my birds reach maturity, and I will put up pictures of Glimmercroft stock.

Gold Cuckoo Marans - These birds are from Bill Braden's breeding. Mr. Braden is no longer raising Gold Cuckoo Marans, but sold his stock to a fellow in Oklahoma, from whom I purchased eggs. The photo is by John Glowa. Hopefully, with proper credit, he won't be too upset by my using his photo until I get one of my own.
Blue Laced Red Wyandotte - Still waiting for eggs on this breed. Photo from Feathersite courtesy of Heather Langdon. These are bantams, but I will be getting standard fowl.
Delaware - These came from Texas.
White Laced Red Cornish, Utility strain - These came from Leon Valley Trading Company in Texas.
